Carly Hunter:‘Non Ho Sonno’ translates at ‘sleepless’ or ‘I cant sleep’ in Italian.
It refers mostly to the insomnia and delusions the designer was experiencing while working on this collection, and only slightly references the Dario Argento horror film of the same name. Many of the designs are made to look like twisted bedsheets and clothing, like the wearer has been sleepwalking in the night. The polka dot netting reflects the hallucinations and double vision that many insomniacs experience. Chadwick Tyler’s ‘Demons’ series and Hiroshi Sugimoto’s ‘Seascapes’ were a reference for the colour palette and stillness in designs. For this collection a film was created by Alex Goddard, starring Courtney James from Scene Models, revolving aroung ‘the sleepwalker’ which will be played alongside the collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010.
